Fair Housing Defenders: Youth Voices on Mobility in the Third Ward

The Center for Africana Futures (CAF) proudly partnered with Friends of Columbia Tap and the Fair Housing Defenders to host a youth-focused Focus Group on Mobility in the Third Ward Community.

Held at Texas Southern University in the Martin Luther King Building, Room 217, this interactive session invited youth ages 13–22 to share their lived experiences and visions for improving mobility and access in their neighborhoods. Participants received a $20 cash incentive, enjoyed free dinner and giveaways, and engaged in meaningful dialogue about equity, opportunity, and community design.

The event was part of an ongoing CAF Connections initiative to amplify young Black voices in urban development and housing justice. By creating space for youth insight and leadership, CAF continues to shape a future where community-based solutions drive lasting change.
